How EMDR Intensives Work

EMDR intensives consist of half-day or full-day one-on-one sessions, that help you process the things keeping you feeling anxious or depressed. In addition to learning about you, I will share what the science tells us about how we react to difficult experiences and provide structured, evidence-based treatments to assist in your healing. I play an active role. Here’s how it will work step-by-step:


Initial Session

First, we do an initial session to determine if an EMDR intensive is right for you.


Treatment Plan

We customize a treatment plan and intensive schedule to meet your needs and goals.



We do the intensive! At the start, we will work on creating a safe space for your healing to begin. We will work on skills to help you manage current stressors and to help prepare you for processing the sexual assault or abuse. Wherever you are in your healing journey, we will pick up there and move you through, getting closer & closer to healing the wounds of the past and feeling a sense of hope and joy again. For some folks multiple intensives are needed as well as follow-up therapy. Together we will tailor your plan to achieving your goals.

Research shows that EMDR Intensives can positively change your thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. It can help you let go of what’s holding you back.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m not sure it will work because nothing else has?

Many of my clients have tried multiple forms of therapy and healing before seeing me. I understand how scary it can feel to get your hopes up, especially if you have been disappointed in the past. This is why we always do a thorough assessment before considering an intensive. I will be honest with you if I think I can help or not.

Is the investment worth it?

This depends a great deal on how much you are suffering and how willing you are to spend time focused solely on yourself and your healing. We often pour tons of resources into self-care and treating the symptoms. With the intensive we are looking at healing the root causes of depression and anxiety so you don’t have to keep working so hard at keeping the symptoms away. Therapy is hard. Why drag it out? Spend some time focused on your healing so you don’t spend anymore time suffering.

What if my experiences aren’t “traumatic enough”?

Many of the people I work with experience Trauma Imposter Syndrome, a phrase I’ve created to describe a common cluster of thoughts people have:

  • Things in my life haven’t been that bad
  • I should stop complaining
  • Other people have it worse than me
  • I’m exaggerating things
  • It wasn’t abuse because…

I understand how hard it can be to describe experiences as “traumatic” when you are having these thoughts. This form of gate-keeping on what can be considered trauma is normal. And I also want you to know, it doesn’t matter what we label it. EMDR intensives help people recover from bad experiences (even minor ones) whether we call it trauma or not. There’s no such thing as an event that it too big or too small to process.
